Director Rafi Wants to Release 'Amimangshito', Stuck on the Censor Board.

During Sheikh Hasina’s government, director Rayhan Rafi’s film ‘Amimangshito’ was banned by the Censor Board and several other films. Since the fall of the previous government, there has been increasing pressure on social media for the release of the movie. Meanwhile, Rafi is considering releasing ‘Amimangshito’ again under the new approach to censorship by the interim government. However, following the government’s ousting in response to the anti-discrimination student movement, a significant event that highlighted the need for change in the country, on August 5, the country’s landscape has significantly changed.
There is a resounding call from within the film industry for the release of movies, including ‘Amimangshito’, that are currently entangled in the censorship process. This unified front has also led to a demand for the abolition of the current censor system. In response, the interim government’s new information and broadcasting advisor, Nahid Islam, has announced plans to restructure the Bangladesh Film Censor Board. This decision has instilled a sense of hope among movie makers, including producer Rayhan Rafi.
On August 18, Rafi posted a promotional video of ‘Amimangshito’ on his verified Facebook page. The video featured Shahidul Alam Sacchu. Rayhan Rafi wrote, “People can no longer be fooled! ‘Amimangshito’ is coming… It has to come…“.
Following this post, Rafi’s fans began discussing the release of the web film on social media. Rafi mentioned, “I will present it to the censor board again. We all want ‘Amimangshito’ to be released soon. As it is legally withheld, we will resolve the matter legally. Hopefully, everything will be resolved soon.”
“The OTT platform has no censorship rule, but we were asked to censor a show called ‘Amimangshito’, and we complied. However, the Ministry of Information informed us suddenly that we could not show it to the viewers. This abrupt turn of events has led us to plan to reapply to the Ministry and request permission to release ‘Amimangshito’,” wrote Rafi.
The show’s first teaser, released on February 12, ignited intense speculation among viewers, linking it to the infamous murder of journalist couple Sagar Runi and Rafi from Eyescreen. This teaser has left the audience in a state of heightened anticipation and curiosity. However, the creators have remained silent on this matter. Imtiaz Barshan and Tanjika Amin deliver compelling performances in the web film in the two leading roles.
