‘Khoyab:Castle in the Air’ in international festival

‘Khoyab: Castle in the air’ which is based on Jamdani weaver struggle is invited to an international festival ‘Short Film Festival and Asia 2024’ of Japan. It will take part on live action asia international competition festivals in different venues of Tokyo, Japan from June 4 to June 17.

There will be a showcase of more than 200 movies of different countries. Here the producer and actress Liza Asma Akter will take part. Based on Liza Asma Akter’s story, made in Dream Shadow’s banner ‘Khoyab: Castle in the Air’ is directed by Hemanta Sadik and screenplay by Shawon Koiry. In the movie,Ashis Khandaker and Liza Asma Akter played role a weaver couple. Producer and actress Liza Asma Akter and director Hemanta Sadik of ‘Khoyab’ are invited in the festival from the side of producers agency of Dream Shadow.

The movie is rounded by a village weaver named Kanchan. He wants to keep the handmade weave used by his family because it bears the memory of his ancestors. But he has to go to powerloom to increase the production. He struggles to hold his dream standing against poverty and reality. Weave is a machine from which clothes are made from yarn. Weave is going to extinct in this digital reformation age,powerloom takes the place of it. But for many weavers,it was the income source for generation to generation. These weave are their emotion and memories, those bear the sign of their ancestors. They never want to sell these sign, but reality force them.

In this story, Kanchan, a weaver, faces this type of confusion. He doesn’t want to sell his familial weaver. On the other hand,his wife Ayesha does so and they have to make more Sharee for which powerloom is needed. Kanchan’s ancestors requested him not to sell the weaver in his dream. Kanchan was making a red jamdani sharee for his wife,which is expensive in market and a sign of love and affection for his wife. But he couldn’t keep the red sharee for his wife. Owner( Cloth trader) takes the sharee forcefully from him before the biggest religious festival Durgapuja of them. Kanchan is dreaming that he will be able to make the red jamdani sharee before the next Puja. Dream, which keeps the man alive. Finally he doesn’t sell his familial weaver.

Noted, 25 minutes ‘Khoyab: Castle in the Air’ will be exhibited next on June 13 evening in the festival.
