Staff Reporter
As the season of Falgun dawns, Jatra Biroti at Banani prepares to bid farewell to its old home in a vibrant celebration, while simultaneously ushering in fresh beginnings and new opportunities. Established in 1999 as a creative collaboration, Jatra embarked on its journey blending music, arts, and crafts. What started as an exhibition at Drik Gallery in Dhanmondi evolved into a dynamic space – a store, shop, and meeting place, blending tradition with urban influences and emphasizing fair trade and sustainable practices.
This Falgun, Jatra is not just closing one chapter but also opening new doors to welcome the future vividly. The farewell festivities, named Jatra Bhongo, promise to be a lively affair, with daily celebrations starting from the 11th to the 13th, featuring music, art, and performances by local talents. Amidst the festivities, Jatra invites everyone to partake in the excitement, bringing their creativity to infuse the old space with new energy. Artists are encouraged to showcase their work freely, while graffiti wreckage allows them to leave their mark before the old walls come down.
While the transition may be bittersweet, the Jatra family remains committed to fostering creativity, community connections, and sustainability in their new abode. This Falgun, Jatra bids farewell to their cherished home and looks forward to creating more space for new stories and possibilities in this profound journey, marking the beginning of a “Punorjatra” – a new journey filled with hope and creativity.
