Arts Competition Starts Across the Country

A nationwide arts competition is starting across the country in 2024. On this occasion, a press conference was held on Wednesday (June 5) by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.

The press conference, held in the seminar room of the National Theatre Hall, was attended by the Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Liaquat Ali Lucky, and the Secretary of the Academy, Salahuddin Ahmad.

Detailing the competition, it was stated at the press conference that since the establishment of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, it has been working towards promoting cultural practices at the grassroots level as well as spreading them on the international stage. As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Shilpakala Academy’s establishment, this year’s nationwide event is titled ‘Arts Competition 2024’.

Liaquat Ali Lucky said at the press conference, “This initiative by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy aims to spread cultural activities to the grassroots level across the country. We want children to grow up with cultural exposure and opportunities from a young age.”

This year’s competition will be held in 10 categories: 1. Rabindra Sangeet, 2. Nazrul Sangeet, 3. Songs of Public Awakening (patriotic songs/language songs/liberation war-based songs/songs about Bangabandhu/public songs), 4. Folk Music, 5. General Dance/Creative Dance, 6. Folk Dance, 7. Classical Dance, 8. Solo Recitation (poetry/rhymes), 9. Solo Acting, and 10. Drawing. The age-based divisions are: ‘A’ division: 1st grade to 5th grade or a maximum of 11 years old, ‘B’ division: 6th grade to 10th grade or a maximum of 17 years old, and ‘C’ division: 11th grade to postgraduate or a maximum of 25 years old. A participant can compete in up to 3 categories and can participate from either Dhaka metropolitan or their own district.

All district-level competitions will be organized by June 25. The competition for Dhaka Metropolitan North will be held on June 7 and for Dhaka Metropolitan South on June 8. The registration deadline for Dhaka Metropolitan is June 5. Competitions will be held in all 64 district Shilpakala Academies. Competitors from each district can collect information and register from their respective district Shilpakala Academy. The first-place winners from each district and metropolitan level will compete in the final competition at the central level.
