Principal Hafez Maulana Yunus Ahmad, the general secretary of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, denounced the approaching election in Bangladesh on January 7th, accusing it of being a tool to strengthen the authority of the current regime. He rejected the election as a democratic process that involved participation and instead called it a staged performance to further the interests of one person. Ahmad claimed that the government was supporting this election campaign and that poll workers were going door-to-door to solicit votes for one party or another.

In front of a number of party members during a review meeting held at the Central Majlis of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Ahmad stressed that the election was pointless and said that the ruling Awami League would not gain from this electoral tactic. He issued a dire warning regarding the direction the nation is currently taking, highlighting an imminent catastrophe brought on by policies of the government, particularly what he saw as the imposition of an educational curriculum that is in opposition to the views of the majority. He called for the new curriculum to be scrapped and a new one created that would be in line with the values and conscience of the vast majority of people.
