Budget Session Starts On June 5

The budget session of the 12th National Parliament will start on June 5. The Parliament Secretariat has announced that President Md. Sahabuddin has called for the third session of the 12th National Parliament in the Parliament House on Wednesday, June 5 at 5 PM. This will be the third session of the 12th National Parliament and the first budget session. He has called this session using the power given by Article 72(1) of the Constitution.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, the budget for the next fiscal year may be presented on June 6. Usually, the budget session is long. Members of Parliament will discuss the proposed budget. Sources from the Finance Department have informed that the Ministry of Finance is planning to increase the allocation for subsidies and incentives to 112,000 crore taka in the budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year, compared to the main allocation in the 2023-24 budget. If the revised budget allocation for subsidies and incentives for the current fiscal year, which is 98,000 crore taka, is taken as a basis, this increase could be at least 14,000 crore taka.

It is noted that the first session of the current 12th Parliament ended on March 5. The second session of the Parliament started on May 2 and continued until May 9. According to the Constitution, the next session must be held within 60 days of the end of the previous session.
