Bangladesh May Be Isolated From the World If Elections Are Not Fair - EC Anichur
Election Commissioner (EC) Anichur Rahman expressed worries that if the upcoming 12th National Assembly election isn’t handled fairly, Bangladesh would become isolated internationally. In an executive magistrates’ training programme, Rahman stressed how important it is to have a free, fair, and globally recognised election. He emphasised that the country might be stigmatised as a failed state and cut off from the rest of the world if this goal was not met.
Rahman emphasised that the integrity of the election is vital not only for the 18 crore residents of the country but also for the entire world, since the poll’s fairness will be extensively scrutinised by foreign observers. The European Commission emphasised the value of foreign observers and their function in determining the legitimacy of the election.
EC Secretary Jahangir Alam endorsed Rahman’s position, emphasising the need for a transparent, peaceful election process in order to establish legitimacy and international acceptance. The officials talked about extensive plans to deal with any issues like upholding law and order, dispelling rumours, and making sure everyone is safe while voting.
Together, the government authorities emphasised how important it was to have a fair and transparent electoral process because they knew it would have a significant impact on Bangladesh’s reputation abroad. Countering misinformation and ensuring security were highlighted as pivotal factors in guaranteeing a credible electoral outcome.
