Six Dead from Dengue

Since Thursday morning, six people have died due to a country wide dengue infection. This has pushed this year’s dengue death toll up to 1,583. As of this writing, 645 dengue patients are currently admitted into hospitals. On the other hand, there are 3,848 dengue patients in various government-non government hospitals around the country who remain untreated. This information was collected from a report approved by Md. Jahidul Islam, in charge of the Directorate General of Health Services’ Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.
The report from the DGHS stated, from 8 am Thursday to 8 am Friday, out of the 645 people admitted into hospitals for dengue treatment, 154 were residents of Dhaka and 491 lived outside of the capital. Additionally, in the last 24 hours, among the six people who died from dengue, four were from Dhaka and two were from outside of Dhaka. In this year from January 1st to November 24th, approximately 3, 06,437 people around the country have been infected with dengue. Among them, 1, 06,678 people were from Dhaka and 1, 99,759 people were from outside of Dhaka.
In the same period of time, 3, 01,006 patients were discharged from hospitals around the country. Among them, 1, 04,706 patients were from Dhaka and patients who were from outside of Dhaka numbered 1, 96,300. In 2022, 281 people died from dengue, with 27 people dying in December alone. In that same year, 62,382 people were admitted in hospitals due to dengue. During the 2020 COVID-19 epidemic, there weren’t that many cases of dengue infection but in 2021, there were 28,429 people suffering from dengue. In the same year, 105 people lost their lives to dengue.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, 281 people died from dengue in 2022, 105 people in 2021, 7 people in 2020 and 179 people in 2019.
